The weather is finally picking up here in NYC and it’s getting hotttt so that means much more sunscreen (people always seem so worried when they see my pale Irish skin out in the sun here), I have such funny skin that I might tan sometimes or just burn! I’ll never know why haha!
For such a fashion-forward city, I am still surprised by how much black seems to be still the favourite colour here but with the summer finally here I’m starting to see more colours around… I could ‘people watch’ all day long just looking and admiring people’s outfits.
If you love black or monochrome but don’t want to wear your same work pants or jeans, I’ve recently fallen in love with plisse pants, they are just so comfortable and loose fitting is great too for the warmer weather. Also, you can dress them up for work or like I did on my Sunday to Brooklyn Bridge with my Cons:)
I got mine in Topshop but I also found other ones I liked from Urban Outfitters, Missguided and Polyvore.
I’ve been absent from a while, with so much going on here, between having family over to visit and finally landing myself a really good job!! The time just flies by here without even realising it!
But if you want to hear, I am finally going to discuss my time at New York Fashion Week (I know it’s been months ago now and I do apologise*)Arriving to New York, I had big ambitions and high hopes for how easy it would be to get a job here… but no one tells you of how hard it is and how many times you will be told ‘Sorry, No’ or maybe not even any reply… but what I’ve learned is that ‘No’ doesn’t mean No to everything, it just means no that that particular job/position just wasn’t for me and that was the only thing that got me through it all.
It’s all about making connections here, so after joining every social media and job site and numerous hours of applying, researching and emailing as many people who ‘might know someone… who knows someone’ …I knew a lot of internships (especially during fashion week) are unpaid but my experience was worth it all!
I had finally landed an internship with Marchesa!! Honestly one of my dream dream designers! I remember how my Mom and me had always been so amazed by how beautiful the dresses were and what imaginary occasion we would wear one of those dresses if we ever got a chance… We had just seen the finished gowns on celebrities on tv or in magazines so I was in total admiration of getting to see up close the details and dedication going into each design. I was lucky enough to be involved with helping backstage and not just going out to get supplies that we would need for the week & coffee, which was quiet stressful during times because the fact that I’m not from New York so trying to still figure out the subway and not get totally lost (was a task in itself.) I think this is when I began to drink Iced-Coffee over here and would have it maybe once or twice every day here now and now I understand why there is such a love for coffee here!
Getting to witness so many interesting parts of the preparation for a new collection and fashion week show, I was able to see the drawings of what the dresses were to look like to the finishing dresses and getting to see many models walk through the door for castings. When the night arrived for the collection to be revealed, there was so much excitement and it was so amazing to see how organized everything was and how all the work came down to this night, which only lasted around 10minutes for the show and it was all over again.
It was certainly one of the most stressful, yet satisfying experiences I have ever experienced but had really pushed me more to be in this city!(I loved this pic!! #interiorgoals)
Hope you enjoyed the details of my first NYFW & some other pics from The OliviaPalermoXBananaRepublic event.
For some people, winter means layering up and not still being stylish but I think thats a misperception… I have always loved Winter fashion and the colours of the season.
So hate on Winter all you want (okay I know the fact of the coldness sucks), but if nothing else, with chillier weather comes the opportunity to wear two or three of your favourite outfits at once!
The colder weather means layering up and having in mind the even colder weather that I’m going to face over in New York, I was trying to think of ways that I would get more wear out of some pieces in my wardrobe… so even layering up with a long-sleeved or polo neck top under an off-season dress can totally change up an outfit.
Everything I wore today is from Topshop **
Have a fab week,
The excitement and nerves are full on for my departure for NY and I still cannot believe it’s really happening!!
With my major wardrobe clear out in full progress, after coming upon some pieces where I think I only wore once and some I had a few moments of ‘what were you thinking when you bought this!?’👎🏼🙈🙈
I have recently bought a few pieces which I think I may get some different stylish looks out of for work or interviews… This is one dress (of course in black*) that I recently bought in Topshop … But I’ll always need more than one LBD right.? 😉
If there is one thing that being sick the last few weeks has shown me, is that you have to look after yourself inside and out and started with stocking up on vitamins and also because I do wear makeup majority of the week so I was looking for something that I could take to NewYork with me, for taking off my makeup but that doesn’t irritate my skin (that wouldn’t be too heavy) I tend to have sensitive/dry skin so I needed something that would work for my skin type.
I Finally got my ‘mits’ on the infamous Cleanse Off Mitt !!! And Woww I am seriously impressed! I have followed the Skin Nerd – Jennifer Rock, for a long time and she is my ‘go-to skin encyclopaedia’ when it comes to anything about your skin, she is so honest about her advice that you just want to hear everything she has to say.
After the Cleanse Off Mitt was released it wasn’t easy to get as it sold out straight away but I finally found a stockist at Inish Pharmacy and got it in the post within a few days.
You would not think that from just using the Mitt that it takes off all your makeup (including eye makeup) by just adding water. It is honestly so soft and a great replacement for makeup remover wipes… and even happier that I will be able to take it with me on my travels.
I highly recommend it to anyone, especially people on the go or travelling🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
I cannot believe it’s already November and with only 9weeks to go until New York and Christmas😉I am beginning to start thinking about what I’ll need to be bringing with me (without being totally over my baggage weight) and while probably packing and re-packing in the process!
It’s finally so nice to be fresh outside after being sick for the past two weeks…
Starting off Winter with Primark (sleeveless coat & inside top) and Topshop (Boots & Leggings) … I have always wanted a nice sleeveless long winter coat and I love this one I purchased from Primark, with a detachable fur I will be able to wear it in so many ways and got a cosy fur head band from River Island because I am all for the cosy-ness in Winter time and Definitely an outfit I will be bringing with me.
I love Christmas time and especially that it is the first year without college exams and study to worry for, I am going to take full advantage of that!*****🌟🌟🎁🎄🎅🏻

*Home is where the heart is*
Its always nice to be able to go somewhere to escape from everything and living in a city where its always busy, its especially extra nice when I get to come home and walk my dog by the river or just chill in my garden … Its only now the more away from home that I spend, the more I appreciate the little things.
If its not for the beautiful views of home, (when the weather is not so nice) I would be drinking all the mocha’s and yummy scones in the SummerHouse Cafe Lismore 😉
While I was home I took some quick pictures, but unfortunately had a change in weather as it got a little dull and windy (This is certainly the very last this time of my off-the shoulder bodysuits for autumn/winter, as I have got to face that it is getting too cold 😦
but are still key for nights out, paired with heels*).
Enjoy the week,
So, The day has finally come and I’m off to Boston, U.S!!
Iv never been soo excited and nervous at the same time but I can’t wait to start my adventure and hope to have more of an idea about future travels after college…
I am still a little worried that I haven’t packed everything between all the documents and forms as part of my J1 Summer Visa, and then on top of that was over stressing with packing and re-packing so many times and trying to keep in mind that I will for sure purchase over there also but that tends to slip my mind when my bag is nearly overweight!! Haha!
I have always dreamed about visiting America, especially Boston, New York and Washington and cannot wait to experience everything !*
Hope everyone has a lovely summer
